From Riding School Families to the World Stage

Every top rider starts somewhere, and for British show jumpers Jodie Hall McAteer and Matt Sampson, that journey began in riding schools.

British Equestrian has announced Jodie Hall McAteer and Matt Sampson as nominated entries for the FEI World Championships 2026. This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to years of dedication, talent and hard work.

At ABRS+, we are especially proud to celebrate their success. Both riders have strong roots within the riding school community and understand the important role riding schools play in introducing people to horses and supporting the development of future generations of equestrians.

Jodie’s great-grandparents owned a riding school on the outskirts of London, where she first discovered her love of horses. That passion remains closely connected to Hyde Park Stables, one of the last remaining horse mews in Central London. When the previous owner, Mr Briggs, retired in 2018, Jodie’s sister, Ellie Hall McAteer, stepped in to ensure this historic equestrian landmark was not lost to development, preserving an important part of London’s equestrian heritage for future generations.

Matt Sampson’s journey also began in a family riding school. Parklands Equestrian, based in Sheffield, was founded more than 30 years ago by his parents, Robert (Sam) and Ruth Sampson. Built on their shared passion for horses, the business has grown into a thriving equestrian centre while retaining the family values that have always been at its heart. Today, many members of the Sampson family continue to work within the business and support its ongoing development.

Their stories highlight dedication, passion and lifelong commitment that can grow from a childhood spent immersed in riding school life. Everyone at ABRS+ congratulates Jodie and Matt on their nomination and wishes them every success at the FEI World Championships 2026.
