This is an exciting time to get involved with The ABRS+ (The Association of British Riding Schools, Livery Yards and Equestrian Centres) which is a registered charity at the heart of Riding and Equestrianism. Our role is to act as a professional association for the proprietors of professional equestrian establishments, represent their interests and raise standards with professional staff training, professional development, client management and equine welfare.
The ABRS+ are currently seeking new members for the Board of Directors.
We are developing the benefits to members and to strengthen the Trustee Board we are seeking to recruit people who have experience, skills and expertise in the following areas:
Trustees do not necessarily need to have an equestrian background, although this may be beneficial.
Board meetings are held four times a year in London or Peterborough, other time commitments will include working from home on particular projects. There are virtual Board Meetings monthly requiring a regular time commitment. Although this is a voluntary position, trustees can claim reasonable expenses.

Purpose of Role:
To agree and represent the interests of the ABRS and its Scottish members to the official Government organisations communicating outcomes to the Board and Members.
Responsibilities:
Working in close partnership with the Chair, the Trustee responsible for Council Licensing, and the Membership Secretary for day to day queries:
1. Regular liaison to represent the interests of the ABRS and its members through dialogue and meeting attendance with government bodies in Scotland, particularly Horse Scotland, the Chief Veterinary Officer for Scotland, and the delegated representative for equestrian matters from the Scottish Department on Rural Affairs.
2. Advise the ABRS Chair and Board of key Scottish issues, consulting on any required resolution, putting forward the recommended Scottish approach for review and agreement.
3. Hold regular meetings with Scottish members, bi annually as a minimum or as needed, virtually or in person, with speakers to discuss matters of interest, promote the development of fellowship and support across the Scottish membership.
4. As an ambassador for the ABRS to resolve members’ queries and develop the membership, promoting the benefits of membership to potential new members.
5. As the Council Licensing and Operational Standards Advisor for Scottish members, review new members, support and advise members in their activities to renew or upgrade their licensing standards.
6. To be willing to complete local and national projects as part of the regional leadership team.
