In the spotlight this week is Ragwood Riding Centre, we caught up with Chris to find out more…
Tell us a bit about your centre…
We have been at Ragwood for 39 years, having moved here in April 1981. We only moved one mile down the road as we needed a bigger premises!
Why did you become ABRS approved?
We joined the ABRS because we thought it offered us more than other riding school approval schemes and we are only a small centre.
Have you got any plans for this year?
One of our best livery/school horses is 25 years old this year so we are hoping to hold a garden party to celebrate and raise money for the Air Ambulance charity. We also plan to have a big celebration for our 40th anniversary next year.
We know you love all your horses and ponies, but if you have to pick out just one, who would it be?
It’s impossible for me to pick a favourite, they are all so special. A lot of my ponies were purchased because I felt sorry for them. Huff, Lacey and Thomas were all purchased from poor situations where they were not having the best of care. Thomas had a bad driving accident and was scared of his own shadow. Everytime a horse came towards him, he would spin and go the other way. It took the best part of a year to gain his trust. It was hard work, but worth it – he is very special.
All my ponies are in their late teens now and have been with me for a number of years.
Thank you to Chris for giving us an insight into life at Ragwood. Would you like to see your centre featured here? Drop us a message!
