Out of School Setting for Riding Schools

Posted on 3rd August 2020

Some good news for riding schools, in England, who are able to demonstrate that they operate as an Out of School Setting  (OOSS) in accordance with the Department for Education Guidance. Centres can now increase group sizes to 15, for under 18s, where they genuinely provide activities which fulfil the criteria of an OOSS. This will allow summer camps (non-residential), own a pony days and pony activity sessions to cater for up to 15 children in a group.

A summary BHS guidance document and risk assessment considerations are HERE and the full guidance is in the link HERE

Thank you to Sport England and the BHS for helping to get this guidance extended to riding schools.

Please ensure you follow your local council guidelines.

We await further clarification for Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland.

The current coaching guidance in Scotland is available HERE
