The National Horseracing College (NHC) has launched England’s first Level 2 Equine Coaching Apprenticeship, offering employers a practical way to develop coaching capability within their existing workforce.
Delivered by the NHC, the apprenticeship is not limited to horseracing. It is open to anyone working within the wider equine industry in England, including riding schools, livery yards, competition yards and breeding establishments.
Designed specifically for those already working in equine yards, the programme enables staff to build confidence in coaching, communication and leadership, while continuing to contribute to day-to-day operations.

With learning embedded into the working week, new skills can be applied immediately, supporting improved client experience and stronger team performance.
The apprenticeship runs over 12-18 months, requiring around six hours per week of training and development. It is fully funded for those aged 16–21, with a small employer contribution required for learners aged 22+.
As the first programme of its kind in England, it provides a structured pathway to develop in-house coaching expertise and support long-term staff progression.
