Strathaven Equine Retirement Village

Strathaven Equine Retirement Village is a specialist livery yard providing retirement livery and bespoke care for horses with Laminitis and EMS.  We focus on herd-based living, with both natural tree/wooded shelter areas and large open plan field shelters/barns.  We use grass track systems during the spring and summer, and large fields throughout winter.  We offer fully inclusive packages only, providing full livery.

Our service includes weekly grooming, monthly massage pad sessions, hold for farrier and vet, and an annual free ‘cushings’ test (provided through the Avondale Veterinary Group).  Owners have access to a CCTV app that allows them to login and view their horses 24/7 for additional peace of mind. We apply strict biosecurity measures to protect older equines. Worm counts are undertaken 3 times per year to reduce the risk of over worming.

Two packages of livery available:
1. Shared shelter where horses live together as a herd
2. Individual stable/shelter with turnout pen attached for increased movement while needing to be off grass or stabled nightly for medical reasons.

Our emphasis is on socialisation and herd-based interactions. Bespoke designed and built shelters/stables with rails increases horse to horse interaction and helps alleviate isolation and loneliness.
Horses have access to fields all year 24/7 unless restricted for medical reasons.
