Ebony Horse Club

Located in the heart of Brixton, Ebony Horse Club is a community riding centre and youth charity that uses the unique connection between young people and horses to create positive and lasting change.

The purpose-built centre provides a safe, supportive and inspiring environment where young people from Lambeth and the surrounding community can learn to ride, develop practical horsemanship skills and experience the responsibility and companionship that come from caring for horses.

Ebony Horse Club’s activities extend far beyond riding lessons. Through structured coaching, youth work, volunteering and mentoring, the team helps young people to build confidence, resilience, communication skills and a sense of belonging. Its programmes are designed to raise aspirations, strengthen engagement with education and create pathways into further education, training and employment.

Activities include:

  • Regular riding and horsemanship sessions
  • A structured young volunteer programme
  • Riding programmes for local schools and youth organisations
  • Practical experience of horse care and yard activities
  • Youth work, mentoring and personal development support
  • Educational visits, residential trips and wider equestrian experiences

Young people are supported to progress at their own pace, from their first introduction to horses through to more advanced riding, volunteering and opportunities to explore careers within the equestrian sector.

Set among the homes and busy streets of South London, Ebony Horse Club demonstrates that access to horses should not be determined by a young person’s background or postcode. It offers much more than riding: it provides a positive place to belong, opportunities to broaden horizons and the support young people need to fulfil their potential.
