Advanced Rosettes

ABRS+ advanced rosettes promotional designThe ABRS+ Advanced Rosette Syllabus is designed to support learners to develop deep, practical understanding of horses as living beings, while also building transferable skills in observation, emotional regulation, decision-making, and responsibility.

Rather than focusing on performance or technical riding ability, the Advanced Rosettes prioritise:

  • Horse welfare and emotional experience
  • Calm, respectful interaction
  • Understanding cause and effect in everyday care and handling
  • Thoughtful choices that support safety, trust, and wellbeing

The syllabus is particularly suited to Equine Assisted Services (EAS) and alternative education contexts but can be used also by Adult learners. Learning is experiential, reflective, and relationship-based, allowing learners to progress at an appropriate pace while building confidence and competence.

The Advanced Rosettes are organised into four progressive sections (with 5 rosettes per section), each with a distinct educational purpose. Together, they move learners from awareness and understanding, through emotional regulation and care, towards ethical decision-making and leadership in horse welfare contexts:

  • Understanding Horses:  This section provides the foundation for all later learning. Learners develop the ability to observe horses carefully, interpret behaviour and body language, and respond in ways that support safety, trust and welfare.
  • Safe Practice & Daily Care: This section develops learners’ confidence and competence in everyday equine settings through routine care, safe practice and shared responsibility.
  • Physical Health & Welfare: This section introduces learners to the physical needs of horses and to the ways everyday care decisions affect health, comfort and wellbeing.
  • Welfare Thinking & Responsibility: This final section supports learners to apply their knowledge with greater independence, reflection and responsibility in wider welfare, safety and ethical contexts.
