Following the announcement on the 9th July, British Eventing, British Showjumping and horsescotland have been working hard to draw up a proposal which was submitted to sportscotland and the Scottish Government to gain the approval we are all desperately keen for to resume all Equestrian competitions in Scotland. Unfortunately , today (15th July 2020) we have received the feedback that we are unable to resume our sport at the moment. We are looking into a revised proposal to the Scottish Government ahead of the next review on the 31st July 2020 with a more local approach.
horsescotland Chair, Grant Turnbull as the umbrella body of Equestrian activity in Scotland, horsescotland are incredibly disappointed that competition is unable to resume following Government input.
As an organisation we have been working incredibly hard with British Showjumping and British Eventing to overcome these issues presented by the Scottish Government guidance and we will continue to do so. We are acutely aware of the need for the Equestrian competitions, events and businesses to resume and are looking to submit a revised proposal.
Anne Logan, Chair of British Showjumping Scotland , I am saddened that there is, as yet , no resumption of any Equestrian competition activity in Scotland, despite the sterling efforts of horsescotland to continue dialogue with sportscotland and the Scottish Government to highlight the resultant devastating effects on Equestrian business throughout the country.
However , we are in unprecedented times, and it is our duty to demonstrate that we can deliver our sport in a Covid safe , yet competitive , environment. To this end , British Showjumping will present guidelines for start -up training shows with participation at local level only , thus limiting competitor travel to a pre-determined amount. These training shows will be run under strict BS Covid compliant regulations following Government approval.
BE Scotland Regional Development Officer, Frances Hay-smith commented, Thank you to horsescotland for working so hard on behalf of British Eventing in liaising with the Scottish Government and presenting our resumption of sport documents. I’m very disappointed today to get the news that has led to the cancellation of Kirriemuir (1) as we cannot move forwards to prepare events when we won’t know until 31st July 2020 if they can run.
