In the spotlight this week is Featherbed Stables. We caught up with Donna to find out a little more…
Give us a little bit of background on your centre:
We opened in April 2014, I originally wanted a small centre specializing in children’s lessons, teaching them all about ponies how to ride and care for them, I wanted a centre where they didn’t just come along have a lesson and go home. I wanted to be different. However 6 years later we now have 30 ponies and are growing all the time and have around 100 children riding here.
Why did you become ABRS approved?
I wanted to be able to offer more opportunities to the children here, I really liked the rosette awards that ABRS offer and the Progressive Rider awards, giving the children something to work towards and great for the coaches to train towards.
What makes your centre unique?
Our centre is purely for children, so all our focus goes on that. We offer every sport here at Featherbed from Dressage, showjumping, mounted games, Horseball to Polocrosse. Most of our ponies are all older competition or pony club ponies so the children gain so much experience from them.
What are your plans for this year?
To be able to fit in as much as possible and to be able to offer as many opportunities as we can to the children. We will be running camps, shows, events and so much more. I hope to work with the children on their progressive rider awards and see what level they are at by the end of the year. We are also building a second arena very soon to accommodate everyone better. We are also running our own Horseball Tournament here this year.
We know all your ponies are special, but if you had to choose one, who would it be?
That is so hard as they all are truly amazing, every single one of them, but everyone knows my favourites are Jet and Bubbles, but truly love them all.
Thank you so much to Donna for giving us a lovely insight into life at Featherbed.
