Following the controversy over the welfare of the equines at the Modern Pentathlon at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the UPIM have today announced the creation of a Working Panel to look for ways to improve the running of the Modern Pentathlon going forwards, and to extensively review the actions at this years Olympics.
UIPM President Klaus Schormann is to meet with International Equestrian Federation (FEI) counterpart Ingmar de Vos, to discuss options that could be put in place to better improve the sport such as shorter courses, simpler courses, lower fences, or longer practice periods for the horse and rider.
The ABRS+, along with other equestrian associations worldwide, collectively feel that there needs to be huge improvements to the sport to improve welfare for both horse and rider, and to better represent equestrian sports on an international stage.
