Celebrating the Diamond Jubilee on Horseback

In celebration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II´s Diamond Jubilee, five riding schools in Portugal, all members of the prestigious Association of British Riding Schools*, are getting together to celebrate this great occasion on Sunday, 3 June at Pinetrees Riding Centre, Almancil.

The fun day will be held not only to celebrate the Queen´s 60 years on the UK Throne but also to support the local charities .... the Royal British Legion and Riding for the Disabled in the Algarve and Riding for the Disabled Barlavento.... and will involve various British-run local businesses and expatriates who are helping to make the event a success with the supply of garden furniture, potted plants, artificial turf, rosettes and prizes as an example of the Best of British.

The day will begin at 10am with dressage classes, followed by jumping, with prize giving at the end of the morning. There will be a garden party lunch, with a toast to HM The Queen, and then fancy dress with the theme of Royalty, riding games and Handy Horse in the afternoon. Lunch time demonstrations of dressage and side saddle are being done by ABRS members - Pru Clayton Mead from Equus Ourique and Katharine Cook, Monte da Ribeira, Aldeia da Tôr, Loulé respectively. The Vasco da Gama School from Sintra, will be bringing representatives and there will there be riders and ponies from Quinta do Paraiso Alto, Bensafrim.

This is a fitting event for the celebration of HM The Queen´s Jubilee as she has always had a great love of horses and a passion for riding.
