December 2010 saw the first ABRS/UKCC Level 2 Course begin at Grove House Stables, Doncaster. 10 fortunate candidates have been funded for the ABRS by The British Equestrian Federation (BEF) to attend training and achieve the certificate.
The generic course involves 5 sessions. This course is delivered by Dave Pettifor of BHB to develop coaching knowledge and encourage the candidates to improve their current practice by using the coaching skills. Throughout the course the candidates will build a portfolio of evidence which includes the planning, delivery and monitoring of linked coaching sessions. Most of the candidates on this generic coaching course already hold ABRS or BHS Teaching qualifications. The final assessment for this course will take place on 31 March 2011. The qualification will be awarded through Equestrian Qualifications Limited (EQL).
The proprietor at Grove House Stables, Andrew Stennett, has already noticed coach candidates from his centre putting their new coaching skills into practice and is keen to host another course. ABRS approved centres who would like to be considered to host training and assessment days should contact the ABRS for details. Suitable venues will be sought throughout the UK
From early 2011 the ABRS will be incorporating the requirements of the level 2 Coaching Certificate into their Teaching Certificate examination. The TC is the second level of Teaching Awards that the ABRS offers. People who would like the opportunity to gain this sought after combined award should express their interest to the ABRS office or contact the Examinations Coordinator, Janis Baron, directly on 07799 693477 or email janis.baron@ntlworld.com . Funded opportunities will be made available for suitable candidates from early 2011.
