Celebrating Riding Schools: Pinetrees Marks 40 Years in the Algarve

Posted on 15th September 2025

Riding schools play a vital role in their communities, and this summer Pinetrees Riding Centre in Portugal marked 40 years of service with a lively afternoon of competitions, fundraising and celebration.

A standout highlight was the Fancy Dress class, where winner Filly Russel, her family, and her horse Crispy dressed to represent the event’s sponsor. This was not only entertaining but also a brilliant way to thank the sponsor, showcase their brand, and strengthen the link between sponsor and community event. A great example of creativity in action – well done to Filly!

The event also included popular jumping classes, even one for dogs tackling an obstacle course, and attracted riders from EquiJump, Monte da Ribeira, Centro Hípico Bie, and Quinta Lusitanus, alongside Pinetrees’ own riders and holiday guests.

A special moment came when Pinetrees’ owner, Bev Gibbons, received a surprise medal recognising her four decades of contribution to equestrianism in the Algarve. Tributes also highlighted the many professionals who began their careers at Pinetrees before moving on to wider roles in the industry.

The day raised funds for Alerta – the Voluntary Fire Brigade Association – and Canil de São Francisco, Loulé, with both charities receiving €244 from raffle proceeds and entry monies. The event was also supported by Loulé Câmara and judge Bev McHale, with generous raffle prizes donated by local businesses.

Stories like this remind us how riding schools enrich lives, create opportunities, and bring communities together. If your centre has a milestone or success to share, we’d love to hear from you so we can showcase it to the ABRS+ community.
