End of Brookwood Avenue, Hall Green, Birmingham, B28 0DA
Summerfield Stables is a Birmingham-based registered charity that has been bringing horses and young people together since 1970. Based in Hall Green, with additional riding facilities in Solihull, the stables has a strong community focus and works particularly with children and young people from Birmingham and the surrounding areas. It aims to make horses accessible to as wide a range of people as possible, including those with physical or additional needs and young people who may find mainstream education challenging.
Riding at Summerfield is about much more than learning to ride. Alongside individual and group lessons, riders are encouraged to develop practical horse-care and stable-management skills, building confidence, responsibility, teamwork and independence. The stables also provides alternative education provision, opportunities for schools, work experience and volunteering, giving young people different ways to learn and develop through horses.
Horse welfare is central to the Summerfield ethos. A number of its horses have come from rescue or difficult circumstances, and the charity places considerable emphasis on rehabilitation, re-schooling and providing them with long-term security. Horses are regarded as individuals and companions rather than simply as animals used to provide riding lessons, with riders and volunteers encouraged to understand and contribute to their care and development.
At the heart of Summerfield is a belief that financial circumstances should not unnecessarily prevent someone from experiencing horses. Its combination of riding, horse care, education and volunteering creates an environment in which young people can develop both equestrian and wider life skills, while learning to respect and care for the horses with whom they work.

RDA Woodbridge and District Group, The Bays, Monewden Road, Clopton, Woodbridge, Suffolk, IP13 6QL
In 2017 the Riding for the Disabled Woodbridge & District Group moved to its new home at The Bays, in Clopton. It was officially reopened by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne, President of The RDA, on 19th December 2017. We are enormously grateful for the support we received to enable us to build this fabulous new facility.
We are extremely lucky to have wonderful facilities. We have a large indoor arena, an indoor viewing area and an outdoor manège. We teach riding and carriage driving to disabled children and adults regardless of what their disability might be and have been doing this for over 30 years. The benefits to all who ride or drive with us are huge. It provides them with valuable therapeutic exercise, an opportunity to develop their social skills and a chance to build relationships with our horses and ponies. We also offer activities suited to young people with social, emotional and mental health needs and adults living with dementia and other long term conditions.
Our centre is a strong community, where disabled and non-disabled people come together with a shared purpose, build friendships, a sense of belonging, confidence and self-esteem centred around our equine activities. Adults come to us from day centres in Ipswich, Woodbridge, Felixstowe and Saxmundham. Children come with school groups or as individuals, often directly referred to us by their doctors or physiotherapists, or by personal recommendation by those children and their parents who already benefitfrom our centre. Our sessions run six days per week, ably supported by a team of volunteers.
We rely entirely on grants, donations and the generosity of our sponsors to allow us to offer disabled children and adults in our community valuable therapeutic exercise, an opportunity to develop their social skills and a chance to bond with our horses and ponies.
Our Group operates six days a week and provides remedial therapeutic riding and carriage driving for people with physical and/or learning disabilities of all ages. We also offer a range of other activities including Horse Care & Stable Management courses and activities suitable for those living with dementia.
The simple pleasure of working with horses is the cornerstone of all RDA activities. From that starting point everything else flows – be that freedom of movement, gaining confidence, building relationships, receiving life-enhancing physiotherapy or achieving individual goals.

Field House Farm, East Boldon, NE36 0BX
East Bolton Riding Centre’s ethos revolves around four key values that are at the heart of what we do here which enables both a positive and encouraging environment for everyone.
Firstly, Instilling Care
A caring environment for both our horses and our riders radiates throughout from our team. We want every single person who steps into our yard to feel both welcome and cared for. We will always be approachable, kind and a friendly face for our riders and horses to depend upon.
Secondly, Building Courage
It takes a great deal of courage to begin a riding journey, to put yourself out there takes guts, determination and trust. This courage and trust can only be achieved within a caring environment where we are passionate about building each other up.
Thirdly, Encouraging Confidence.
Confidence will build once you feel enabled to pick yourself back up when you fall, knowing that someone from our team will be straight there helping you back up. Confidence will also flourish when you see our team cheering you on and supporting you along the way. Ultimately, confidence comes when you know you are cared for and have the courage to be brave, striving to push yourself when you are readily confident.
Lastly, Creating Smiles.
Seeing smiles on our yard and hearing the sound of laughter and fun is the greatest reward of all. We understand that for our riders to feel happy they need to be enabled through care and kindness, trusting our team and having the courage to believe in themselves resulting in confident, happy riders. After all, happy riders make the best riders.

Retirement Livery: One of the hardest moments for owners is deciding when to retire your horse. Is there an age, an injury, a time in their life (or your life) when it’s best to retire? The truth is there isn’t one answer for everyone, but I say to everyone, you know in your gut when your horse is telling you they’re ready. We offer a bespoke service to suit you and your horse.
Injury Retirement: Qualified, Professional Equine Care All the horses on our retirement livery farm are cared for by professional equine personnel, working with your horse’s welfare as our primary concern. Many equine injuries result in rest which is a crucial part of recovery. We have seen many horses come through the gates with no hope of ever recovering, yet time on grass has seen them thrive and in many cases recover. For our injured or recovering horses, medication is often required as are extra care and closer inspections, these are all part of the service. Our experienced team work closely with Veterinary Experts throughout the world and have experience with most cases of severe injury and recovery, from classic check ligaments and DDFT injuries, to gastric ulcers and chronic colic.

Riding lessons at SLS are innovative, fun and confidence-boosting. We cater for all abilities, whether complete beginner or advanced rider. Complete beginners will be lead at all times by a competent and knowledgeable helper.
Riding lessons last approximately 30 minutes and can be based on flatwork, pole work or jumping but we are weather dependent as our arena is in the field so if it is wet, we usually hack. A 20m x 40m arena is set up in the flat paddock all year round to enable riders to gain flatwork schooling knowledge and is an effective space to teach. We have 10 sets of showjumps that appear in the same field around spring-time.
Hacking is also a huge part of SLS. We are blessed with fantastic countryside around the village and we also conduct our ‘suburban’ rides into Wincanton town which loop back over into the village.
Learning about aspects of horsemanship besides riding is an integral ethos of Stoke Lane Stables. Getting your hands dirty is what it is all about! Stables and the general yard areas are always clean and tidy by the end of the sessions; stable management is recognised as one of the main themes of SLS.

St Teresas, Critten Lane, Effingham RH13 0RL , United Kingdom
We follow the same values as St Teresa’s, including the belief that there is no ‘one size fits all’ and that individuals, both human and equine, should be treated as such. This translates into Equestrian endeavours directly – the essence of great riding experiences is in the partnership between horse and rider, and the teamwork and empathy necessary to create great performances stem from a deep understanding of the individual horse and the individual rider.
Our horses, our riders and our coaching staff are all unique in their backgrounds, skills and experience, and we take great care to fit the horse to the rider and coach appropriately. Our facilities are first class and are located in the beautiful grounds of St Teresa’s, Effingham, in the idyllic Surrey Hills. The riding takes place primarily in a spacious 60m x 30m sand-and-fibre outdoor arena. Hacking is on site on our wooded or grassland hacking tracks or, for more experienced riders, we can venture out onto miles of Ranmore Common and the extensive Surrey Hills’ tracks and rides.
STE is primarily for St Teresa’s students, and we welcome pupils from the school from Year 1 onwards, as well as (when space allows) welcoming parents, other children and other adults to enjoy the horses and teaching available. As well as being a licensed Riding School (GBC licence number RE23), we are a Pony Club Centre, BHS Approved, and ABRS approved. We offer National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) participation for those who wish to represent St Teresa’s in both individual and team competitions, and an international summer school riding experience for our many international visitors.
We have a lovely collection of mostly privately owned ex-competition horses and ponies to teach with, and top class instructors and coaches, we can then take our riders up to Medium level dressage movements, and jumping courses to 1m, both show jumping and arena eventing.
We operate 12 months of the year, 7 days a week: 6 days a week with the STE horses and ponies, and those with their own ponies stabled off-site may bring them to the school to use the facilities on Sundays.

As a member of the RDA, The Diamond Centre exists to provide disabled people with the opportunity of riding, carriage driving or vaulting at the level of their ability to benefit their health and well being.
Our wide range of activities offers excellent opportunities to riders of all abilities and all ages. All riding (including hippotherapy), vaulting and carriage driving takes place under expert instruction.
The Diamond Centre for Disabled Riders is a registered charity and a founder member of the Riding for the Disabled Association and provides unique facilities to benefit disabled children and adults by having regular contact with horses.
It is now widely recognised that riding helps disabled people both physically and mentally – and the remarkable improvements achieved by so many of those attending The Diamond Centre are proof of this.
Riders are aged between 5 and 65 years old and each week, with the assistance of the Diamond’s instructors and helpers, they can enjoy the experience of riding, driving or vaulting. An experience which provides the chance to be independent, a sense of achievement – and, just as important, gives pleasure and satisfaction.
Diamond’s riders have a range of disabilities including; spina bifida, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, downs syndrome, autism and learning disabilities. The Diamond Centre also helps many brain injury victims who often show remarkable improvements through riding. For many riders it is the only activity they can participate in and gain some form of independence.
It costs more than £300,000 each year to run the centre and Diamond receives no Government or local authority support so has to rely on fees, donations, legacies and fundraising events in order to survive.
Without our team of around 300 volunteers we could not operate – so new helpers are always welcome.

Turville Valley Stud is a Classical Training Centre specialising in producing horses and riders for todays competition.
Turville Valley Stud was founded some fifty years ago by the late Nan Thurman, and was originally a riding school for children. However, for the past thirty-five years it has been specialising in training horses and riders influenced by traditional Portuguese Classical methods.
The yard is calm and well organised and is set in the beautiful village of Turville, nestled in the Chiltern Hills.
There are two very good outdoor arenas, one 20m x 40m and one 20m x 60m. Turnout is limited in the winter, but for the rest of the year all the horses get individual turnout for a few hours each day.
Although there are a few stallions on the yard no stud work takes place here.
