The Equestrian Employers Association (EEA) has issued a caution to all employers following a recent poll which revealed that 59% of employed grooms do not have a written statement of terms of employment (contract).
Employers are legally required to provide certain information to staff in the first two months of employment and this information should also be included in any contract of employment.
Equestrian employer and professional rider Aurora Eastwood from South Wonston Farm, Hampshire says, “The obvious thing to point out is that providing a written statement of terms is the law. From a human perspective it’s about making sure someone feels secure and wanted. A written contract gives protection on both sides, everyone knows where they stand, it’s literally written in black and white and so can be referred back to if there is an issue.”
Lucy Katan, Executive Director of the Equestrian Employers Association (EEA) said, “We can’t stress enough the importance of protecting yourself and your business by ensuring that all of your employees have a written statement of terms.
