Apprenticeships with a Difference!

Many of you already run apprenticeship schemes via various training providers so what’s the big difference?

For the first time ever the ABRS is going through the process of becoming a training provider.

The registration process is a lengthy one and will probably take another year to complete, so in the interim we have been negotiating with the Institute of Swimming to sub contract from them. We are now within a month of signing that contract if all the due diligence proves positive for both parties.

This will mean, all being well, we will be running a Pilot Scheme for 50 Apprentices beginning in September 2013.

So where are the big differences?

Firstly, we will be in control of the type of Apprenticeship we deliver, enabling us to train young people with the skills required for a modern forward thinking Riding School.
Secondly, we will be in control of the finances which means we will be able to give enhanced payments to you the Proprietors.

As sub contractors, we will not have as much finance available as in later years when we have attained full training provider status but still sufficient to be a major benefit of membership. These apprenticeships with enhanced payments will only be available to ABRS members.

In normal circumstances we would not be making this announcement until everything has been signed and sealed, but due to what is going to be a short and busy schedule of registering apprentices, inductions for assessors, verifiers and apprentices, situation dictates that we move this process on as quickly as possible to include us in this year's funding bids.

For the scheme to work in the most cost effective way, we need to create a comprehensive database of Proprietors Assessors and Verifier qualifications, we will also in some circumstances look at 'up skilling' peoples practical experience.

To register an interest in joining the Apprenticeship Scheme, please contact Sue Maunder (tests@abrs-info.org) who will require contact details, the number of apprentices you are prepared to take on and Assessor and Verifier qualifications within your centre.

In the next e-bulletin we will give more detail about the content of the apprenticeship scheme and how we hope to deliver it. Help us to help you and register now if you want to be involved.
